This module introduces the students to the different ways they can keep and handle the money they have. Information leaflets about different financial products and services can be picked up on the high street, in the supermarket and at other outlets or go to the websites (for example of banks or building societies or any retailer who offers financial products and services). This is something you can ask the students to do in advance of the lesson. Students are introduced to the complexity of consumer choice and the need to use a range of skills, as well as the information around them, to make informed decisions. The skills they need to choose financial products are not too different from those they use to choose from a burger-bar menu or a range of mobile phones. The purpose of the module is to get them to think about how they choose from a menu, to think about why they make the choices they do about their mobile phones, and to look ahead to how they will choose a bank account.
